As officially notified by The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) a few days ago, Prof. Guo Tong from School of Civil Engineering of Southeast University was elected as an ASCE Fellow.
Prof. Guo Tong is mainly engaged in teaching and research of the evaluation and improvement of structural multi-hazard performance. He presided over more than 20 scientific research projects including the National Key R&D Program, won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (the second person-in-charge), and took the lead in winning the first prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Gold Award in Geneva International Invention Expo etc. As a national Class-1 registered structural engineer and construction engineer, Prof. Guo Tong has carried out extensive and in-depth engineering practices in the fields of building seismic isolation, seismic reinforcement and structural intelligent monitoring in recent years. At present, he's been serving as Deputy Editor of two ASCE journals: Journal of Bridge Engineering and Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, and a member of ASCE “Engineering Accident Identification and Training Committee” and other academic positions.

To be elected as a fellow of the society, the candidate has to obtain world-class innovative research results, highlight the engineering capacities of top professional engineers and a wide range of international academic influences.
