Editor’s note
Recently, students from School of Civil Engineering have taken the class titled “Civil Surveying and Mapping” from July 5 to July 18, during which we saw them with their instruments everywhere in the campus despite hot weather and heavy rain.
The course of Civil Surveying and Mapping aims at teaching students the basic theory and skills of measurement. More specifically, it contains the basic theory of surveying, the error theory, the usage of instruments and the basic calculation etc. Apart from theory, this lesson pays high attention to practice with a quarter of the class hour made up of experiments; meanwhile, the team work and the sense of responsibility is of great importance as well.
This summer, the students took the practice lessons of surveying and mapping.
Following the students’ steps, let’s see what the world looks like in those mysterious instruments!
Despite the hot weather and the sudden rain, the students from School of Civil Engineering carefully and patiently measured the school. As the old saying goes “Practice makes perfect”, it offers students a great opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical engineering as well as a sound chance to practice team work. The hot weather is undoubtably a huge challenge, especially when most students are having lessons in the cool classroom. No pains, no gains. Those who have gone through the practice will gain a better understanding of this course.
