[Southeast University News Network, September 16] (Reporter: Hao Jie; photographer: Hang Tian, Zhang Wenqing, Bian Hui) From September 10 to 12, Southeast University held the 2019 Autumn Seminar on Induction Training for New Teachers. Zuo Wei, Secretary of the school’s CPC Committee, attended the seminar and delivered a speech. 106 newly-employed full-time teachers, full-time scientific researchers, full-time counselors, teaching assistants and full-time postdoctoral staff as well as responsible comrades from relevant functional departments employed over the past six months attended the seminar.
Zuo Wei attended the opening ceremony held on the morning of September 10. On behalf of the school, he welcomed and thanked the newly recruited teachers. He presented school emblems and books to the new teachers’ representatives, and also gave the new teachers the first lesson entitled “abiding by their original mission and creating a better future”. Zuo Wei reviewed the history of Southeast University and introduced its profound historical background. Zuo Wei pointed out that in the past 100 years, Southeast University has always adhered to the principle of “strengthening the country by education”, the idea of “serving the country with talents”, the responsibility of “rejuvenating the country by science and technology”, the spirit of patriotism and dedication, and the pattern of service strategy, and taken the responsibility of the country as the eternal value pursuit. Zuo Wei hopes that the new teachers can deeply understand the historical heritage of Southeast University and find the “nutrition” of future development from the historical accumulation. He emphasized that, standing at the magnificent historical intersection, facing the responsibility and mission of the new era and the new requirements of the Party and the state, new teachers should strive to realize their personal ideals and values in the pursuit and realization of the “Chinese Dream” and the “SEU Dream”.To this end, we must undertake the mission of talent education, hold the talents training standards in the new era and the training objectives of the leading talents of Southeast University, and strictly follow the standards of the good teachers with “Four-Qualifications”, and constantly improve their morality, academics, technology, art and benevolence, so that they can affect students with noble sentiment, rich knowledge and personality. We must undertake the mission of scientific research, and face the forefront of world science and technology development, national major strategic needs and the main battlefield of economic society. We have to seek truth from facts, be pragmatic, pioneering and innovative, and constantly conserve scientific spirit, advocate scientific ethics, and observe professional ethics.
We should strive to achieve breakthroughs in scientific theories, serve the country’s major strategic needs, and support the transformation of industrial structure. We must resort to solve the problems from 0 to 1 and the strangling problems, and satisfy the needs of industry and society. Zuo Wei said that choosing Southeast University means choosing responsibility. The university will spare no effort to provide an increasingly broad platform and a large stage for the development of teachers, and provide more and more powerful conditions. He hopes that new teachers can abide by the initial aspirations, build consensus, take on the mission, continue to struggle, and create a better future.
On the afternoon of September 10, all new recruits attended the 2019 Southeast University Celebration Conference of the Teacher’s Day. Under the leadership of Prof. Song Ai’guo, the outstanding teacher’ representative, they solemnly took the oath, strengthened their professional beliefs and ethics, and strengthened the responsibility and mission of morality and cultivating talents.
During the training seminar, experts such as Dai Xianzhong, Gao Jianguo and Hua Wei were invited to give special reports on such topics as teachers’ ethics, teachers’ accomplishments and teaching skills. The responsible comrades of the functional departments such as the Teachers’ Affair Department of the CPC Committee, the Student Affairs Department of the CPC Committee, the Discipline and Inspection Office, the Personnel Department, the Finance Department, the Teaching Affairs Department and the Secret Office introduced to new teachers various resources, facilities and support services provided by various departments, as well as relevant regulations and requirements.
During the practical education, new teachers visited the History Museum of Southeast University to further understand the long history and cultural heritage of the university, and to learn the principle of “strengthening the country by education” and the idea of “serving the country with talents” of the elder SEUers. In the training seminar, teachers’ representatives who participated in the red culture special education training course of Jinggangshan in the summer of 2019 and study camp of key industries and organizations were invited to share their research experience and insights with new teachers.
It is reported that the school will base itself on the needs of new teachers’ career development, carry out a series of training and communication activities, such as special training, pre-job training and teaching practice, etc., further enhance teachers’ professional quality and ability, provide sustained support and service for teachers’ growth and development, and accelerate the training of innovative teachers team to better support the “double first-class” construction.
