The University of Birmingham Sent Letter of Greetings to Southeast University

[Southeast University News Network, Feb. 20] (Correspondent: Wu Chan) Sir David Eastwood, President of the University of Birmingham, sent a letter to Zhang Guangjun, President of Southeast University, expressing his condolences and support to President Zhang Guangjun and all colleagues of Southeast University on behalf of the University of Birmingham. He said that the University of Birmingham is a global university with Chinese students constituting a very important part. Many Chinese students come to study at the University of Birmingham for undergraduate or graduate degrees every year, and academic colleagues from China have also made great contributions to the teaching and research of the University of Birmingham. In addition, the Chinese community living and working in Birmingham has even diversified this multicultural city. David Eastwood said that the University of Birmingham would spare no effort to ensure the safety and health of students and staff on campus, while supporting the school’s students, colleagues, partners and society as a whole to livethrough this challenging period. David Eastwood, on behalf of the University of Birmingham, expressed his firm support for China’s early victory over the epidemic.

Vice President Jon Frampton of the University of Birmingham, sent a letter on behalf of President David Eastwood. In the letter, he extended his sincere greetings to President Zhang Guangjun. He said that Southeast University is one of the important partners of the University of Birmingham. He sincerely expected to further consolidate the cooperation between the two universities and continued to promote the establishment of a joint biomedical research and teaching center. The university would continue to maintain close contacts with the departments concerned of Southeast University in the coming weeks for discussion on related issues, to help students engaged in the cooperative projectsbetween the two universities. Besides, flexible measures would be adopted to help SEU students overcome the difficulties.

In the reply to David Eastwood and Jon Frampton, President Zhang Guangjun sincerely appreciated the University of Birmingham for its care and support for our university, and fully affirmed the cooperation achievements made by the two universities since 2017, such as the establishment of the Biomedical Engineering Joint Research Center and the development of big data science joint research, etc.. He said that the counterpart departments of both sides would continue to carry out detailed communication on exchange projects, scientific research and teaching cooperation, etc., and fully guarantee the interests of the teachers and students concerned. Zhang Guangjun further said that we had the determination and capacity to overcome the epidemic as soon as possible with the concerted efforts both at home and abroad.

It is reported that our university has also received letters from such cooperative institutions of higher education as the University of British Columbia, Canada, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Northern Illinois, the University of Monash, Université de Rennes 1, RWTH Aachen University, Hellenic Open University, Politecnico di Torino, Università IUAV di Venezia, Aichi University, National Institute for Environmental Studies, Belarus Minsk National Linguistic University,, etc., which expressed their support and encouragement for SEU in epidemic prevention and control, their concerns of relevant exchange projects and their sound aspiration for continued cooperation in the future.
