A seminar on the issue of Professor Chen Heng’s Academic Thoughts was held in Sipailou campus, SEU in October 6th to memorizethe 35th anniversary of the publishing of Electric Power System, after which “Chen Heng Foundation for Development” was set up.
Prof.Chen(1928-2001) was the long-term supervisor of Electric Power&Automation Specialty, School of Electrical Engineering in SEU. He was a well-known scholar both home and abroad whose academic research and teaching field involved that of the electric power as well as electric motor. In 1980, Prof. Chen became the first to publish Electric Power System, which was then elected to be the textbook in many domestic colleges and universities. Steady-state Analysis of Electric Power System, a latter version based on the original one, has been printed 42 times and reached 186000 volumes, playing a vital role in producing a new generation of talents concerning electric power system. In memorial of him and to inspire SEU students’ learning enthusiasm and innovative spirit, his relatives, students and friends raised over 1200,000 yuan and set “Chen Heng Foundation for Development” in Southeast University Education Foundation to finance and reward personnel training, academic exchange and textbook publication in School of Electrical Engineering.
