Executive vice-president of Microsoft Research Asia Visited SEU

Alumni of SEU and executive vice-president of Microsoft Research Aisa Rui Yong together with senior academic collaboration manager Dr. Wu Guobin visited Southeast University on the fifth of November.

During the visit, Rui and the others communicated with the supervisor of Chien-Shiung Wu College, Southeast University, each exchanged ideas about how to cultivate talented personnels. They also expressed that they would begin from the advantage areas of Microsoft Research Asia to further develop cooperation. Later on, the group visited School of Computer Science and Engineering and had a discussion with the supervisor about joint doctoral training mechanism and outstanding young teachers’ visit to MSRA.

Besides, Rui had a round table meeting with two excellent undergraduates from two colleges, encouraging them to work hard at their professional courses with his own experience and endeavor to find their own research interests in the laboratory. He then introduced detailed information about the overal situation in MSRA and his research area, after which he had an interaction with the students.

On the evening of 5th May, Rui gave an academic lecture to the students and faculties of Southeast University, Jiulonghu Campus with the topic of From AI to AI. He introduced the three periods of artificial intelligence in general, then gave a vivid account of the features with the description of Microsoft Oxford Project, Microsoft Cortana and HoleLens Project. Before the lecture, Rui attended the launching ceremony of Microsoft Campus Hackathon in Southeast University.

Dr. Rui Yong is in charge of multimedia search and big data digging. He is IEEE Fellow, IAPR Fellow, SPIE Fellow and ACM Distinguished Scientist. He graduated from Southeast University, Tsinghua University and University of Illinois successively.
