On the morning of December 2nd, “No impediment in the mind—Liu Canming Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition”was held in Chinese Art Museum.

Wu Weishan, curator of Chinese Art Museum wrote an introduction for the exhibition specially, saying that Prof.Liu extracts essence from cultural relic and gradually forms his unique writing style of Dunhuang Sutra. He speaks highly of Prof.Liu,praising him for using Confucian classics to have spiritual cultivation with his inquiry into life and transcendence of objective existences.

The exhibition is both an initial summary of the creative attainment in the past 30 years and a crucial stretch of this year’s itinerant exhibition. During the period, over 70 pieces of work were displayed, most of which were composed of regular script, running hand and cursive script in Chinese calligraphy. These works fully express his unrestrained, harmonious, simple and nature way of writing. And his independent style of writing cursive script shows his quest for applied calligraphy in modern day. In general, the exhibition is not only a collective reflection of Prof. Liu’s learning and creation, but also a good example for modern Chinese calligraphers to reuse and recreate new cultural relics. Most importantly, it embodies the aesthetic plurilism of modern Chinese calligraphy.
