Recently, the 45th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was held in Geneva, Switzerland. The team of Southeast University won a special gold award, a silver award and two bronze awards. Mobile Biomass Pyrolysis Oil Extraction System, invented by the team led by associated Professor Zhang Huiyan of School of Energy and Environment, SEU, won the highest prize -- Grand Gold Medal. This program was aimed at solving collection and expensive transportation cost during utilization of agricultural and forestry waste biomass. The team put forward to transform the biomass into the biological oil by mobile pyrolysis device, and to lift the oil quality intensively through a new liquid fuel extraction model which was to extract oil discretely and refine it centrally. Mobile Pyrolysis Oil Extraction System improved the size, compactness, modularity and automation of the device by means of reaction strengthening and integration technology. It made great progress in cheap biomass oil extraction technology and was expected to solve the problem of high-value clean utilization of agricultural and forestry waste biomass. The program of Professor Ding Youliang of School of Civil Engineering, Security Early-Warning System of High-Speed Railway Bridge, won the silver award and best invention award awarded by the Russian Delegation. Two programs of the team of Professor Liang Caihua of School of Energy and Environmental won bronze award.
International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva was founded in 1973 by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Swiss Federal Government. It is one of the oldest, largest and most well-known invention exhibition around the world. In the 45th exhibition, nearly 1,000 new inventions from over 40 countries and regions appeared, among which 83 inventions was from China mainland. Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and other Chinese universities had some 40 invention were presented in the exhibition.
